“It’s not your house any more, it’s a house.”
That’s a great quote from a series of three videos on home staging from recent episodes of The Today Show with Matt Lauer. Yes, you still have to live there while you’re trying to sell your home, but buyers don’t care about that. Only when they can envision themselves living in your home will they make the decision to buy it. They can’t do that when your everyday stuff is lying around, so get rid of it or hide it.
The videos recommend relatively small investments to improve your home’s appeal, but of course they leave out the larger investment – your time. I won’t gloss over this, it’s hard! Maybe you’ve started a new job or your spouse is already out of town at a new job. Whatever the case, it can feel overwhelming. However, I can tell you emphatically, that every minute of time and ounce of energy you invest in improving your home’s appeal will be worth it.
